EIU vs. Detroit Mercy
Playing short-handed, Eastern Illinois women's tennis won four points in singles play to rally past Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon winning 4-3.
EIU improved to 8-5 on the season. Detroit fell to 7-4.
Detroit won the doubles point after taking the number three doubles match by default and then winning at number two doubles.
The Titans extended the lead to 2-0 with a win by default at number six singles.Â
EIU then evened the match at 2-2 with wins by
Rachel Papavasilopoulos and
Karla Contreras. Papavasilopoulos won at number one singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jasmine Apawti. Contreras won 6-1, 6-0 at number five singles over Sophie Torcello.
Detroit then moved within one point of the win with a victory at number four singles. Senior
Srishti Slaria evened the match at 3-3 with her win at number two singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Abby Carpenter then clinched the match for the Panthers with a three-set win at number three singles. Carpenter beat Chelsea Apawti, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4.
