APSU Stops Women's Tennis In Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois women's tennis team lost an Ohio Valley Conference match on Friday to Austin Peay.  Due to heavy winds in the area, the match was played indoors at the Dodds Tennis Center in Champaign.

In the women's match Austin Peay remained undefeated on the season with a 7-0 win over Eastern Illinois.  APSU is now 17-0 on the year while EIU fell to 11-8.  The Panthers are 2-3 in the OVC and will host Murray State on Saturday for senior day to honor Srishti Slaria and Abby Carpenter.

APSU won the doubles point as they clinched with wins at the number two and number three positions.  Rachel Papavasilopoulos and Slaria had their match at number one doubles left unfinished tied at 4-4 after the Governors clinched the overall doubles.

In singles play APSU was able to win all six singles matches in straight sets.  Claudia Yanes Garcia snapped Papavasilopoulos 11-matche win streak with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over the Panthers sophomore.

Playing at number two singles Slaria battled in her second set before falling 6-0, 7-5.
