Panthers drop opening match of the weekend 6-1

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis opened a critical weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday at Southeast Missouri.  The Panthers dropped a 6-1 match to the Redhawks meaning EIU will need to beat UT Martin on Sunday to advance to the OVC Tournament.

EIU is now 11-10 overall, 2-5 in the OVC.  SEMO improved to 11-9, 4-4 in the OVC.

The doubles point came down to the final match played at the number three position as SEMO was able to win that decision 6-3.  EIU won at number one doubles with Rachel Papavasilopoulos and Srishti Slaria winning 6-4.

SEMO would then win the first five points in singles with straight set wins in positions two through five.  Slaria pushed her first set at number two singles to 7-5 before falling 6-3 in the second set to Kseniya Zonova.

Papavasilopoulos would win the final match of the day scoring the lone point for EIU with a win at number one singles.  Papavasilopoulos won 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 over Romana Tarajova.
