Freddie O'Brien picks up win for Panthers at No. 1 singles

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis opened a busy weekend in Nashville on Friday morning with a 4-1 conference loss at Belmont.  The Panthers will face Tennessee State on Saturday morning before playing Martin Methodist Saturday afternoon on the return trip to Charleston.
 
EIU fell to 11-13 overall, 0-3 in the OVC.  Belmont improved to 10-9 overall, 2-1 in the OVC.
 
Freddie O'Brien picked up the lone win of the match for the Panthers at number one singles as he improved to 13-7 this season in the number one position.  O'Brien beat Hendrik Inno in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
 
Belmont opened the match winning the doubles point with wins at number one and number two doubles.  O'Brien's doubles match at the number three position with Logan Charbonneau was left unfinished after the Bruins won the point.
 
The final two singles matches of the day at number five and six singles were also left unfinished after Belmont was able to capture the needed fourth point in the match.  Charbonneau and Luka Knieling were the two EIU players in the final two singles spots that didn't finish with both matches still in the first set.
