NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis climbed back to .500 on the year Saturday as the Panthers won 4-0 at Tennessee State in the morning and then 5-3 at NAIA member Martin Methodist in the evening during the return trip to Charleston.

EIU is now 13-13 on the season, 1-3 in the OVC. TSU fell to 5-9 overall, 0-3 in the OVC. Martin Methodist slipped to 6-10 on the year.

The men's squad won all three doubles matches to sweep the point and jump out in front 1-0 in the match.Â
Mike Jansen and
Gertjan De Wilder won 6-3 at number one doubles.Â
Daniel Hernandez and
Gage Kingsmith picked up a 6-2 win at number two doubles and
Freddie O'Brien and
Logan Charbonneau won 6-0 at number three doubles.

In singles play, EIU won the top three singles matches to clinch the match with the final three matches left unfinished. O'Brien won 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles for his second win of the weekend. He beat the defending OVC Male Player of the Year Hendrik Inno from Belmont on Friday.

Jansen would win 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at number two singles followed by Hernandez winning 6-4, 6-2 at number three singles. Kingsmith (number four) and De Wilder (number five) had their matches unfinished while Charbonneau playing at number six singles did not begin his contest.

In the nightcap, EIU and Martin Methodist played by NAIA rules with each doubles match counting as one point. EIU won two of the three doubles points with Jansen and
Luka Knieling winning 8-3 at number two doubles.Â
Braden Davis and Kingsmith paired to win 9-7 at number three doubles.

In singles play O'Brien pushed the Panthers lead out to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number on singles. Â Martin Methodist then tied the match with back-to-back wins at number two and number three singles.

The Panthers clinched the match with wins at number four and number five singles. Charbonneau won 6-1, 6-2 at number five singles for the fourth point before De Wilder closed out the EIU win with his 6-4, 6-3 win at number four.
