The Eastern Illinois baseball team wrapped up their conference series against Belmont with a double-header on Saturday. Belmont was able to take both games of the doubleheader to win the conference series this weekend.
With the losses, EIU drops to 16-16 on the season and 8-7 in the OVC.
Game One: Belmont 9, EIU 7
The Bruins got the best of the Panthers in the first game of the double-header defeating EIU 9-7. EIU would score five runs in the last four innings but would come up short by two runs in their comeback.
Spenser Dexter got the start on the hill for the Panthers in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader. Dexter tossed 4.0 innings with four runs and two strikeouts. Dexter fell to 3-2 on the season with the loss.
Joshua South earned his third win of the season for Belmont, improving to 3-3 on the season. South tossed 8.0 innings with five runs (three earned) and two strikeouts.
Tyler Tesmond added to his offensive hot-streak in 2019 with a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning. Tesmond finished 1-for-4 with two runs, a home run, and an RBI.
Ryan Knernschield had an impressive showing for the Panthers at the plate finishing with a team-high two RBIs. Knernschield drove in two runs in the top of the ninth with a double two right field.
Game Two: Belmont 5, EIU 1
The Bruins were able to hold to Panthers offense to one run in the second game to secure the series.
Foster Anshutz suffered his first loss of the season on the hill for the Panthers, dropping to 5-1. Anshutz tossed 6.2 innings with four runs and three strikeouts.
Korey Bell earned his first win of the season, tossing 5.0 innings with three strikeouts and one run. Kyle Brennan earned his second save of the season for the Bruins tossing 3.1 innings with two hits and one strikeout.
Belmont Jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first when Devon Gardner hit a two-run homerun.
Keith Kerrigan was able to break the scoring drought for the Panthers in the top of the sixth with a one-run single through the right side to score
Christian Pena.
Gardner would extend the Bruins lead to five runs hitting his second homerun in the bottom of the sixth and third homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning.
