Baseball Defeats Butler 13-6

EIU baseball closes out the home portion of the season with a 13-6 win over Butler

The Eastern Illinois baseball team wrapped up their regular season at home Tuesday afternoon against Butler. EIU was able to defeat Butler 13-6.
 
The Panthers got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Jimmy Govern drove in the first run for the Panthers with a one-run double to left field. Ryan Knernschield would drive in the second run of the game with a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.  Keith Kerrigan would keep the rally alive with a two-run single up the middle.
 
Butler answered back in the top of the second inning when James Gargano would drive a one-run double down the left field line. Brody McGrath would follow-up with another Bulldogs double down the left field line to drive in Gargano.  Sam Russo would keep the rally alive with a one-run single to right field.
 
The Panthers would extend their lead by scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning.
 
Grant Emme would drive in Christian Pena in the bottom of the third inning with a one-run single up the middle.  Govern would drive in his second run of the game with a single to right field. Hunter Morris would hit his 12th homerun of the season with a no doubter to right center.
 
Kerrigan would drive a one-run double to left center in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Jimmy Huber would hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in the Panthers second run of the inning.
 
Butler would rally in the top of the ninth inning, scoring three runs.
 
Carson Haws got the start on the hill for the Panthers in the mid-week battle. Haws improved to 4-0 with the win. Haws tossed seven innings with eight strikeouts.
