CHARLESTON, Ill - The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team came out victorious in their first match at Lakeside Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers dominated the game on offense taking a total of 15 shots with nine shots on goal as they beat Saint Xavier 2-0.
The team defense was stellar as well, allowing the Cougars only one shot attempt at goalkeeper
Jonathan Burke. Burke posted his first shut out of the 2019 season.
Nate Francke scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 24th minute. The goal came off an assist from
Shady Omar and
Cameron Behm. Behm managed to score a goal of his own in the 57th minute off of a
Jonas Castelhano assist.
The Panthers offense was spread out during the game, allowing for eight different players to get shot attempts. Omar led the team in shots with three; each of which were on goal.
EIU improves to 1-3 on the season while Saint Xavier falls to 1-3-1. The Panthers look to continue this momentum going into Friday's match at Bradley.
