Men's Soccer Ties Denver Saturday

Panthers defense snuffs the Pioneers offense

DENVER, Colorado - Eastern Illinois ended the match against Denver in a draw Saturday night. The Panthers managed to get off only three shots in the entirety of the match, none of which were on goal. The Pioneers managed to take 27, but were held scoreless. The Panthers record sits at 3-4-1, while the Pioneers move to 1-5-2.

It was a physical match in Denver, racking up a total of 28 fouls throughout the match, 12 of which were by the Panthers. Delphy Sabu was given a red card at the 40th minute of the match, the first red card of the season for EIU. A little over 45 minutes later, Davi Girardi received a red card as well in the 86th minute of play. These are the first red cards that Sabu and Girardi have received as Panthers.

The three shots came from Cameron Behm, Munir Sherali and Girardi. Behm and Girardi both took their shots in the first period of play, while Sherali was the lone shot in the second period by EIU. The Panthers could not get a shot off in the third and fourth periods.

The Panthers continue their domination on defense this season with a shutout by goalkeeper Jonathan Burke. Burke had eight saves on the match which puts him at 35 on the season. That ranks him third in the Summit League in saves on the season.

EIU comes back to Charleston for the week and will play IUPUI at Lakeside Field on Tuesday, Oct. 1. They follow that with another home match against 7-1 Oral Roberts on Saturday the 5th.
