NORMAL, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis battled in-state rival Illinois State on Friday with four singles matches going to three sets. Illinois State picked up the 5-2 win over EIU.
EIU fell to 4-2 on the season while it was the season opener for ISU.
Illinois State picked up the opening point winning the doubles point. ISU won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles while EIU claimed a win at No. 3 doubles with its team of
Lauren Ellis and
Christine Gouws.
ISU extended its lead to 3-0 winning at No.6 and No. 2 singles in straight sets.
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova secured EIU's first point in the match at No. 4 singles winning in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 7-6.
ISU would then clinch the match with three set wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos won the final point with a three-set win at No. 1 singles. She won 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
