EIU vs. Illinois
URBANA, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis played a pair of matches on Sunday facing Eastern Michigan and Illinois. EIU lost both matches falling to 5-4 on the season.
EIU lost in the morning to EMU 5-2 before dropping the nightcap to Illinois 4-0.
In the morning match EIU fell behind losing the doubles point with EMU winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. EIU did win the No. 3 doubles contest with
Lauren Ellis and
Rachel Papavasilopoulos picking up a 6-2 win.
Papavasilopoulos and Ellis would then give the Panthers a 2-1 lead in the match winning at No. 1 and No. 6 singles. Papavasilopoulos won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to improve to 6-0 on the season. Ellis won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
EMU would then win the next four matches in singles play to capture the match.
In the nightcap, EIU lost 4-0 at Illinois. The Fighting Illini won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Illinois was leading the third doubles match when the point was clinched.
In singles play, Illinois won three points in singles to clinch the match with three matches left unfinished. Illinois was leading in all matches.
Christine Gouws slid up to No. 1 singles for the match with her contest unfinished at 6-3, 5-1.
Claire Perez-Korinko and
Karla Contreras also had unfinished matches at No. 6 and No. 3 singles.
