Eastern Illinois continues its Ohio Valley Conference opening road trip on Saturday at Belmont. The Panthers lost their OVC opener on Thursday night at Tennessee State falling to 7-6 overall, 0-1 in the OVC. EIU will be looking to avoid an 0-2 start to the conference season for the third time in the last four years when they play at Belmont. The Bruins are 9-5 overall, 0-1 in the OVC after being upset in the conference opener by SIUE.
WALLACE SCORES A CAREER HIGHÂ
Josiah Wallace continues to heat up as the Panthers hit the mid-point of the season as the junior guard scored a career-high 32 points on Thursday at Tennessee State. It was the sixth time in the last seven games that Wallace has reached double figures averaging 14 points per game in those contests. It was the second career 30+ point game for Wallace who had 31 last season against Arkansas State. It marked the first 30+ point OVC game for a Panther since
Mack Smith had 31 in Feb. 2018 against Tennessee Tech. It was the first 30+ point road performance in a league game since Sherman Blanford had 32 in Feb. 2014 at Austin Peay. Â
DIXON POSTS FIFTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE
George Dixon posted his fifth double-double of the season on Thursday night at Tennessee State finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Dixon is tied for the OVC lead in double-doubles this year with Terry Taylor of Austin Peay, the OVC Preseason Player of the Year. Dixon had two offensive rebounds to move his season total to 47 as he ranks 24th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds this season. Dixon's season high for scoring was 24 points against Green Bay. He pulled down a season high 14 rebounds at Purdue Fort Wayne. He has been named the OVC Newcomer of the Week twice this season.
