Eastern Illinois men's tennis split a pair of matches in the Chicagoland area on Friday as the Panthers moved to 7-2 on the season.
EIU beat Illinois Tech 7-0 in the afternoon before falling 6-1 to North Dakota in the nightcap.
In the morning match EIU quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead winning the doubles point with wins at all three doubles positions.Â
In singles play EIU swept all six matches in straight sets.Â
Pau Riera moved up to play at No. 1 singles winning 6-0, 6-2.Â
Max Pilipovic-Kljajic won 6-1, 6-1 playing at No. 5 singles.Â
In the nightcap, EIU got off the a quick start winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.Â
Freddie O'Brien and
Mike Jansen won 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.Â
Gage Kingsmith and Rohan Srivastava won 7-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action North Dakota won all six singles points with three of the matches going to three sets to determine the match. O'Brien lost in three sets at No. 1 singles 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Daniel Hernandez lost in three sets at No. 3 singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.Â
Cameron Slabbert fell at No. 6 singles losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
EIU will return to action on Sunday at Ball State.
