GAME 28
Eastern Illinois hosts Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon with the excitement still in the air following Thursday night's dramatic 63-60 comeback win over Murray State. The Panthers win moved APSU into sole possession of the lead in the OVC standings. EIU's win also moved the Panthers into a tie for sixth in the league race at 13-14 overall, 6-9 in the OVC. The top eight teams advance to the OVC Tournament in Evansville. APSU enters at 19-9 overall, 13-2 in the OVC. EIU is now 9-2 at home this year.Â
PANTHERS POST HISTORIC COMEBACK WIN
Eastern Illinois trailed by 27 points with 11:45 remaining in the game on Thursday night against Murray State. The Panthers outscored the Racers 40-10 over the final 11:30 of the contest to post the fifth biggest comeback in NCAA Division I history. Only four times has a team trailed by more than 27 points in the second half and rallied to win. EIU's victory came with the least amount of time remaining of any of the top five deficits. EIU trailed by 16 points with just under five minutes to play with the win ranking sixth all-time in that comeback category. The largest margins of victory are Duke beating Tulane in 1950 and Kentucky beating LSU in 1994, in both games those teams trailed by 31 points.
WALLACE SCORING STREAK
Josiah Wallace was a key figure in the Panthers rally as he scored all 20 of his points during the final 11:30 of the game. Wallace scored nine of the Panthers final 14 points and 12 of the final 19. He would hit the game winner with two seconds remaining to lift EIU to the 63-60 win. It was the fifth straight game Wallace has scored 20 or more points and the 17th time he has done so in a Panthers uniform. Wallace has been able to score in bunches with 12 career games where he has scored 16 or more points in a half. During OVC play this season he has four games with 20 or more points in a half.
