GAME 29
Eastern Illinois hits the road for the final weekend of the regular season with games at Southeast Missouri and SIUE. The Panthers need one win in their final two games to lock up a spot in the OVC Tournament field. EIU kept its OVC Tournament hopes alive with dramatic home wins last week over OVC leaders Murray State and Austin Peay. For their efforts, EIU was named the NABC National Division I Team of the Week as the Panthers are now 14-14 overall, 7-9 in the OVC. SEMO enters the final week of the season at 7-22 overall, 3-13 in the OVC.
WALLACE NAMED OVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Josiah Wallace was named the OVC Player of the Week and the CollegeInsider.com National Player of the Week after his efforts against Murray State and Austin Peay. Wallace averaged 21.5 points per game for the week as he has scored 20 or more points in six straight games. He scored all 20 of his points against Murray State in the final 11 minutes including the game winning 3-pointer with four seconds remaining. The last EIU player with six straight 20-point games was Henry Domercant in 2002-03. Domercant had a streak of 16 straight 20-point games during his junior season in 2001-02. Â
DIXON NAMED OVC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
George Dixon was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week as the junior earned the award for the fourth time this season. Dixon scored in double figures in both games against Murray State and Austin Peay. Against APSU he posted his tenth double-double of the season, the highest single season total by a Panthers player since Kevin Duckworth had 16 as a senior in 1985-86. Dixon currently ranks second in the OVC in rebounds and 17th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds.
