Cross Country Meet Results
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Eastern Illinois cross country returned to action for the first time since November 2019 as the Panther men and women competed on Saturday afternoon at the Southeast Missouri Meet.

The EIU men placed third in the five team field on the 8K course at Osage Park while the EIU women were fifth in the 5K event. EIU was joined in the field by host Southeast Missouri, UT Martin, Memphis and SIUE. The UT Martin men won the men's race while SEMO won the women's event. Memphis was second in both races.

Adam Swanson was the men's top finisher as EIU had five runners in the top 15. Swanson was sixth with a time of 25:05.6. The next four Panthers runners were bunched in spots 10 through 15.Â

David Thompson was 10th with a time of 25:27.7.Â
Trevor Murphy was 12th with a time of 25:30.6.Â
Dustin Hatfield was 14th with a time of 25:34.4.Â
Will Bullock rounded out the EIU men's scored runners in 15th with a time of 25:36.1.

On the women's side EIU only had five runners available based on injuries and COVID-19 protocols. Â
Katie Springer was the Panthers top finisher in 13th with a time of 19:13.4.Â
Alex Gomez just missed a top 20 finish as she placed 21st with a time of 19:45.5

Sam Mabry,
Ashley Gilmore and
Caitlin Corso rounded out EIU's competitors. Mabry was 29th with a time of 20:34.8. Gilmore was 30th with a time of 20:41.2. Corso was 34th with a time of 21:23.0.

Kaitlyn Shea of Southeast Missouri won the women's 5K running unattached. Ryan Ford of UT Martin won the men's 8K.

EIU returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 as the Panthers will host the EIU Spring Open at the Tom Woodall EIU Panther Trail.
