Eastern Illinois men's tennis opened up the 2021 season on Thursday afternoon with the Panthers picking up a 6-1 win over Olivet Nazarene at the Park Forest Tennis Center.
The EIU line-up had several changes since the Panthers last played on March 1, 2020 against Chicago State starting with a new head coach,
Paul Jarzynka, who took over the program on January 3.
Two of the three new faces to the EIU singles line-up picked up wins with
Karan Srivastava winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and
Charles Courteau winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Daniel Hernandez moved up to play at the No. 1 singles spot beating Carlo Cota Vargas in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 10-3.
The Panthers would win two of three match-ups in doubles play to clinch the final point of the match. EIU won the first doubles match at No. 3 with
Cameron Slabbert and
Rohan Srivastava picking up the 6-2 decision. Courteau and Hernandez teamed up at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point.
