INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Eastern Illinois men's soccer beat the IUPUI Jaguars 1-0 on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The win marked the first road win of head coach
Ronnie Bouemboue's tenure and the first road win for the Panthers since a 1-0 win at Purdue Fort Wayne on November 2, 2019. The Panthers improve to 2-9-1 overall on the season with the win.
A defensive slugfest for much of the action, senior Midfielder
Chad Hamler found the back of the net in the 78th minute for his first goal of the season to give EIU the 1-0 lead. The Panthers kept the Jaguars off the scoreboard for the last 12 minutes to secure the victory.
IUPUI outshot Eastern Illinois 10-7, but the Panthers had four shots on goal to the Jaguars' two. The Panthers also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Davi Girardi led EIU with three shots. Along with Hamler,
Jonas Castelhano,
Prince Okonny, and
Julian Smith each registered a shot on goal for EIU.
The Panthers will look to continue their momentum when they return home to face Belmont on Tuesday, October 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
