CHARLESTON, ILL. -- Eastern Illinois men's soccer was dealt a 2-0 loss by the Belmont Bruins on Tuesday afternoon at Lakeside Field. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 2-10-1 overall on the season.
Belmont got on the board in the 26th minute when Liam O'Brien found the back of the net for the Bruins. Niccolo Dagnoni widened the gap to 2-0 with a goal off of a free kick in the 43rd minute, and EIU was unable to make up the deficit in the second half.
Despite the loss, the Panthers outshot the Bruins 13-12, with each team recording eight shots on goal. Belmont held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Lenni Kirschner led EIU with four shots, all of which were on goal.Â
Maxwell Allen recorded three shots, two of which were on goal.Â
Julian Smith and
Jonas Castelhano each recorded two shots for the Panthers with Smith recording a shot on goal.Â
Trey Gora had the other shot on goal for EIU, and
Jared Cornejo also recorded a shot for the Panthers.
Next up, the Panthers will return to Summit League action as the team heads back on the road to take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
