Men's Soccer Falls At Home To Omaha

Panthers drop to 1-2 in Summit League Action

CHARLESTON, ILL -- Eastern Illinois Men's Soccer lost 2-1 at home to the Omaha Mavericks on Saturday Afternoon at Lakeside Field.  With the loss, the Panthers drop to 1-7-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Summit League conference play on the season.

Senior Forward Davi Girardi gave EIU the early led with a goal in the 12th minute off of a corner kick, assisted by Jonas Castelhano.  Omaha's Hugo Kametani tied the game up with a goal in the 26th minute off a pass from Luke Smith.  In the second half, the Mavericks pulled ahead for good when Naz Astwood scored a goal in the 77th minute off a corner kick, assisted by Kenji Mboma Dem.  EIU had two good looks in the final three minutes, but were unable to capitalize.

Omaha outshot the Panthers 16-11, including a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal.  The Mavericks also held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Girardi led the Panthers with three shots.  Chad Hamler and Gorka Delgado each had two shots for EIU.  Castelhano also registered a shot.  Hamler led the team in shots on goal with two.  Girardi, Delgado, Maxwell Allen, Nikola Salopek, and Felipe Kerr Lourenco each had a shot on goal for EIU.  Senior Goalkeeper Jonathan Burke recorded a season-high 11 saves.

Next up, the Panthers will head on the road to take on Louisville on Tuesday, October.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm CT.
