Eastern Illinois hits the road prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday for a pair of games at the EKU Hoops Invitational presented by Geneva Financial. The three-team event features EIU, host Eastern Kentucky and UAlbany. EKU beat UAlbany on Saturday night. EIU will play EKU on Monday night and then the Panthers will wrap up the tournament on Wednesday afternoon against UAlbany. EIU is 1-3 on the season following a home win over Rockford University on Thursday. EKU enters at 4-1 after their Saturday night win. EIU and EKU will be meeting as non-conference opponents for the first time since 1982.
BALANCED SCORING FOR PANTHERS
Eastern Illinois had balanced scoring in the Panthers win over Rockford University on Thursday night. Six EIU players scored in double figures as EIU picked up a 96-64 victory.
Sammy Friday IV led the way with 21 points as all five starters had double figures.
Henry Abraham added 15 followed by
Rodolfo Bolis with 14,
Kejuan Clements with 12 and
CJ Lane with 11.
Jermaine Hamlin came off the bench to score 12 points. The last time EIU had five or more players score in double figures in a game was Dec. 12, 2021 when EIU had six players score in double figures in a 92-86 win over Western Illinois.
EIU CONNECTS OVER 60 PERCENT IN WIN
Eastern Illinois used its size to its advantage in Thursday's win over Rockford University as the Panthers had 58 points in the paint. The inside play allowed EIU to shoot 69 percent in the opening half and 62.7 percent for the contest. EIU finished the game shooting 37-of-59 from the floor. The last time EIU shot 60 percent or better in a game was Feb. 6, 2021 when EIU was 31-of-50 from the floor shooting 62 percent in a win over Tennessee State.
