LAFAYETTE, La. – Eastern Illinois suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night as the Panthers lost 9-0 at No. 7 ranked Louisiana.
The Rajin' Cajuns improved to 5-0 on the season while the Panthers fell to 4-1 on the year.
Kaitlyn Alderink provided the first run of the game in the third inning against EIU starter
Jade Montgomery (2-1). Following a pitching change, Louisiana was able to add five more runs in the frame to open up a 6-0 lead.
Ciara Bryan hit the first of her two home runs in the six-run third with a two-run shot. She would add a solo home run in the fourth before Julie Rawls closed out the scoring with a solo home run of her own.
EIU had hits from
Haley Mitchell,
Mia Davis and
Hannah Cravens in the loss. Casey Dixon picked up the win to move to 1-0.
The game was unique in that it was a match-up between father and daughter as the head coaches of the two programs. EIU is coached by
Tara Archibald with her father Gerry Glasco the head coach for Louisiana.
