Eastern Illinois men's tennis opened Ohio Valley Conference play on Friday morning at Jacksonville State. The Panthers led in one unfinished doubles match and had No. 1 singles player
Karan Srivastava push his match to three sets before JSU captured the match 7-0.
The Gamecocks would win at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to capture the overall doubles point. At the time EIU was leading at No. 2 doubles with
Christos Kyrillou and
Thomas Wallace leading 4-3 in the set.
In singles action, Srivastava moved in to play at No. 1 singles against Joaquin Vallejo. Srivastava won the opening set 7-5 before falling in the second 6-1. Vallejo would then win the third set 10-6 over the Panthers top player for the day.
Leighton Brandon contended at No. 2 singles as he lost 7-5, 6-4 in his match.
JSU clinched that match with straight set wins at No. 6, 3 and 4 singles. The final two matches of the day to be completed in singles action where Brandon at No. 2 singles and Srivastava at No. 1 singles.
EIU fell to 2-8 on the year, 0-1 in the OVC. The Panthers will play two matches on Wednesday at Northern Illinois.
