CHARLESTON, Ill. – On a wet and windy day in Charleston, Eastern Kentucky was able to score a goal both with and without the wind at their backs on Tuesday afternoon to beat Eastern Illinois 2-0 at Lakeside Field.

Eastern Kentucky was able to score early in the first half as Michaela Iacono redirected a pass from Audrey Anderson in the seventh minute for the first goal of the match.

EKU would press with the wind at its back for two more shots on goal over the next 12 minutes with EIU goalkeeper
Faith Davies making saves on both attempts. It was the first career start for Davies in net.

In the second half, EIU continued to press the attack playing with the wind. EIU had several good possessions resulting in shots, but none were directly on net as EKU's defensive backline blocked two chances in the goal box.

The Colonels would score an insurance goal in the 70th minute as Claire Hicks targeted a shot to the high corner of the net. Kylie Fitzgerald collected the assist.

EIU fell to 1-6 during the spring season and will play at Austin Peay on Friday. EKU improved to 2-4 on the year.Â
