CHICAGO – Eastern Illinois women's tennis returned to the win column on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers picked up a 7-0 win over Chicago State.
EIU won the doubles point as
Addison Brown and
Christine Gouws won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles and Chicago State lost the No. 3 doubles match by default handing EIU the early 1-0 edge.
In singles,
Rachel Papavasilopoulos returned to the Panthers line-up at the No. 1 singles spot for the first time in three weeks. She won her seventh match of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kristina Pukhaeva.
EIU would then follow with singles wins at No. 2, 3 and 4 to clinch the match. The Panthers tacked on wins at No. 5 and 6 singles by default.
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Gouws won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and
Brittany Steven won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
EIU improved to 2-9 on the season and will travel to McKendree on Wednesday.
