CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis played its first home match on the Rex Darling Tennis Courts in nearly two years on Friday afternoon.
In the match, EIU lost an Ohio Valley Conference contest to Belmont, 4-1, with two matches left unfinished after the Bruins clinched the deciding fourth point.
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova picked up the win for EIU playing at No. 2 singles as she beat Peyton Lee 6-4, 6-2.
Belmont opened by winning the doubles point as the No. 2 doubles match was decided by a tiebreak with Drew Hawkins and Somer Henry beating
Rachel Papavasilopoulos and
Brittany Steven 7-6 (7-4). Belmont won at No. 1 doubles 6-0, while
Christine Gouws and
Addison Brown teamed up to win 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.Â
Belmont won singles points at No. 1, 5 and 6 singles with Gouws match at No. 3 singles left unfinished heading into a third set against Erin Allen. Steven had her match at No. 4 singles left unfinished tied 2-2 in the second set after a tiebreak to decide the opening set.
