CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois (0-7-2, 0-5-2 Summit) fell to the Denver Pioneers (5-2-0, 5-2-0 Summit) after an early second-half goal by Deston Norman.Â
FROM THE KICK
The Panthers played stingy defense against the Pioneers in the opening half of play, allowing only three shots with one being on goal. EIU kept the game tied, heading into the second half of play.
The Pioneers found the back of the net after being set up from a free-kick in the 46th minute of play. The Panthers continued to play Denver tightly while struggling to find the space to take quality shots.
Alejandro Lurbe and
Nikola Salopek both found openings to shoot but had too much under them as they sailed over the basket. Both teams battled, but Denver came away with the 1-0 win in the first game of the series.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will face the Pioneers once more on Monday, Apr. 12, at 1 p.m. in Charleston, Ill.
