Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 In A Battle Against Denver

The Panthers drop the series 2-0 to the Pioneers

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's soccer (0-8-2, 0-7-2 Summit) fell 2-1 to the Denver Pioneers (6-2-0, 6-2-0 Summit) in a Monday battle. Alejandro Lurbe scored the Panthers' goal in the 50th minute of play. Eastern Illinois will wrap up the regular season against Western Illinois on Saturday, Apr. 17, at 1 p.m. in Charleston, Ill.

FROM THE KICK
The Panthers and Pioneers battled back and forth in a tight first half of play. The game got physical early on, as the Panthers were tagged with nine fouls and the Pioneers collected eight of their own. 

In the second half, the Panthers struck first from Lurbe's goal that hit the top left corner of the netting to put EIU ahead 1-0. The Pioneers scored their own goal in the 57th minute of play to tie the game up. In the 63rd minute, Denver took the lead 2-1. EIU was unable to score again, as the team fell 2-1.

Eastern Illinois will host Western Illinois on Saturday, Apr. 17, at Lakeside Field in Charleston, Ill. The game will start at 1 p.m. and will be the final game of the regular season.
