CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Eastern Illinois softball was held to four hits on Friday afternoon as they lost the series opener at Southeast Missouri, 7-0. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Southeast Missouri broke through in the bottom of third inning against EIU starting pitcher
Olivia Price (6-3) as they scored three runs against the freshman pitcher. Ashley Ellis has the big blow in the inning with three-run home run, one of two home runs she had on the day. Ellis added a solo shot in the sixth.
EIU would put runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings but could not find the big hit to produce a run.
Megan Burton was 2-for-3 to lead EIU while
Mia Davis and
Abi Stahlhut had the other two hits for the Panthers.
SEMO added three more runs in the fifth as they loaded the bases with three straight singles. Jillian Anderson cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Rachel Rook picked up the win to improve to 11-5 on the season.
