CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois set the school team record for home runs with a solo shot in both games of Sunday's doubleheader with Murray State at Williams Field.

That would be the only offense Murray State's pitching staff would surrender as MSU beat EIU, 6-1 and 2-1 to sweep the Sunday twinbill.

In the opener Jensen Striegel opened up a close game with a two-out triple in the third inning and came around to score on a RBI by Sierra Gilmore, one of three hits Gilmore would have in the opener.

MSU extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth with an RBI double by Lexi Jones.   Amber Cieplinski cut the Racers lead in half with a solo home run, her fifth of the season.

MSU starter Hannah James would allow just that run as she scattered four hits in the complete game win.

Gilmore connected for a two-run home run in the fifth and the Racers tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh for the 6-1 win.

In the second game Lily Fischer and Striegel had back-to-back hits in the third inning to set the table for Gilmore.  The shortstop delivered with a two-run double putting the Racers up 2-0.

In the bottom of the third Megan Burton hit her 15th home run of the season to cut the MSU lead in half.  It was the 45th team home run of the year for EIU as they broke the previous school single season record of 44 home runs set in 2011.

After a pair of hits to open the fourth inning, Jenna Veber came in to pitch in relief and closed the contest allowing only two hits the remainder of the game for the win.  Jade Montgomery was the hard luck loser for EIU allowing just five hits in the complete game loss.

Morgan Lewis had three hits in the second game while Burton and Cieplinski both had two hits.
