CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis picked up its first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season on a windy Saturday afternoon at the Rex Darling Courts as the Panthers beat Tennessee State 5-2.

The match started with competitive play in all three doubles matches as EIU won two of three by virtue of a tiebreak.Â
Leighton Brandon and
Charles Courteau gave EIU the early advantage with a 7-5 win at the No. 3 doubles position.Â

Christos Kyrillou and
Thomas Wallace would then secure the doubles point at the No. 2 doubles point winning 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreak win.Â
Karan Srivastava and
Daniel Hernandez won at No. 1 doubles with a 7-6 win, 7-0 in the tiebreak. Hernandez was one of three seniors in the program honored prior to the match as he joined
Quinn Camfield and
Juan Carlos Garrido.

Srivastava would put the Panthers up 2-0 in the match with his straight set win at No. 1 singles over Maksims Kazijevs, 6-3, 6-1.

Kyrillou extended the Panthers advantage in the match to 3-0 as he won for the second straight day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

After TSU captured the No. 3 singles match,
Cameron Slabbert sealed the win with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 6 singles over Leandros Misdrachis.

Courteau would pick up the final EIU point in singles play at No. 5 singles winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.Â

EIU is now 3-12 on the season, 1-3 in the OVC.  TSU fell to 0-9, 0-2 in the OVC.
