CINCINNATI – Eastern Illinois had two shots late in final 30 seconds but could not find the target as Xavier held off the Panthers 1-0 in the regular season opener for both teams.
 
Xavier scored the lone goal of the match in the 79th minute as Jerome Xu Jolly scored off a corner kick piece.
 
The match was delayed until late in the evening by lightning in the area which resulted in a kickoff two hours and 30 minutes after the originally scheduled time.
 
The two teams were scoreless in the first half with Xavier registering five shots and EIU three.
 
The Panthers finished the match with seven total shots but only a shot by 
Kevin Lanham was on target. 
 
EIU returns to action at home on Monday afternoon hosting Milwaukee at 1 p.m.
