CHARLESTON, IL -- Eastern Illinois Men's Soccer dueled the Green Bay Phoenix to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday afternoon action at Lakeside Field. With the tie, the Panthers now sit at 0-5-1 on the season.
Green Bay's Ethan Hord scored in just the 2nd minute of action to give Green Bay an early 1-0 lead that the Phoenix would ultimately take into halftime. In the 66th minute, Sophomore Defender
Brennan Rzewuski netted the first goal of his Panther career on a pass from Senior ForwardÂ
Davi Girardi to tie the game, 1-1. Neither team was able to find the net again, as the game went into overtime. The two extra periods proved to be a defensive stalemate, as Green Bay took the only shot of either overtime period before the game ultimately ended in a draw.
The Panthers outshot the Phoenix 8-6. The two teams were dead even in shots on goal and corner kicks with four and five, respectively.
Lenni Kirschner and
Jonas Castelhano each recorded two shots for EIU, with Kirschner getting a shot on goal. Girardi and
Shady Omar also each had one shot on goal for the Panthers.
The Panthers will open up conference play on Saturday against St. Thomas at Lakeside Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
