CHARLESTON, IL -- Eastern Illinois men's soccer defeated the Tommies of St. Thomas 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field. The Panthers improve to 1-5-1 overall and 1-0-0 in Summit League conference play on the season with the win.
Julian Smith found the net for the Panthers in the 36th minute for the decisive goal. The Panthers were able to hold St. Thomas scoreless for the remainder of the game to secure the win.
EIU outshot St. Thomas 10-6, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.Â
Chad Hamler led the Panthers in both categories with three apiece.Â
Munir Sherali had two shots and one shot on goal for the Panthers. EIU also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next, the Panthers will head back on the road to take on Summit League opponent Denver. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 pm Central Time.
