Women's Soccer Opens OVC Play With 1-1 Draw

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois and Morehead State both had late scoring chances on Sunday afternoon but following 110 minutes of action the two schools walked away with a 1-1 draw to open Ohio Valley Conference play at Lakeside Field.
 
EIU is now 2-5-2 on the season, 0-0-1 in the OVC.  Morehead State leaves the match with a 2-5-3 record, 0-0-1 in the OVC.
 
EIU found the back of the net first as the Panthers scored in the first half.  Cam Korhorn brought the attack into the Morehead State zone connecting with Jenna Little for the Panthers goal in the 37th minute.
 
EIU had a chance to push the lead to 2-0 early in the second half but had a goal waved off following an offsides call on the attack.
 
Morehead State would knot the match at 1-1 in the 61st minute as Jenna Setters crossed a high ball back to the top of the box that was headed home by Katie Kiolbassa.
 
The match featured 43 total shots with EIU collecting seven shots on goal and MSU finishing with eight.
 
Eagles goalkeeper Michelle Jerantowski saved a potential game winning goal in the final minute of regulation as she turned away a shot from Little.  Morgan Goodman then had her shot in the final three seconds go high off the cross bar.
 
MSU had one final shot to pick up the win as Colleen Swift sent a good shot to the upper left corner of the goal that was turned away by EIU keeper Faith Davies as time expired in the second overtime period.
 
This marked the second straight season that EIU and Morehead State reached overtime.  EIU was able to secure a win in the spring 2021 season with a golden goal just minutes into the first overtime.
 
Libby Van Wagnen led Morehead State with three shots on goal, Abby Vanhoeve and Nicole Fiantaco both had five shots for MSU.
 
Little led EIU with five shots and three shots on goal.  Goodman added three shots.  Korhorn tallied two shots on goal.
