Swimming Posts 8 First Places At Wabash

Both teams drop to 1-4 on the season

Eastern Illinois men and women's swimming drop close matches between Wabash College and DePauw University on Friday night. Both Panther teams drop to 1-4 on the season. The women's team was defeated by DePauw by a score of 103-156 and the men's team lost to Wabash by a score of 122-153. This marked their first meet since Dec. 4 when they traveled to Terre Haute, Ind.

EIU's men's 200 yard relay team picked up Eastern's first win of the night when the team of Forrest Baumgartner, Marshall Holt, Jacob Nichols and Dismas Dillon finished with a time of 1:37.65. This marks the second straight meet that the men's team has won the 200 relay. Emma Ballantyne added a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.27. Connor Colston also added a second place finish in that event with a time of 1:44.80.

In the 100 yard backstroke, Olivia Viele (1:03.09) and Baumgartner (54.66) earned Eastern two second place finishes. Cydney Adams earned a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:24.21. Nichols also added a first place finish in 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.27. Cameryn Lewis helped the women's team by placing first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.69. Dillon earned second place in the same event for the men's (21.84).

EIU swept the men and women's 200 yard breaststroke event with  Corinne Staneart (2:27.39) and Jarod Farrow (2:18.57) earning first place finishes. The Panthers also swept the men and women's 100 yard butterfly with Kaylan Ottosen and Nichols placing in first. Ottosen posted a time of 1:00.68 and Nichols with a 54.66. Eastern's night came to a close with a first place finish in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of Baumgartner, Nichols, Colston and Dismas finished with a time of 1:26.45. Nichols led all Panthers with four first place finishes.

The Panthers will return to action next weekend for their final home meet of the season when Valparaiso comes to Padovan Pool to face-off against the Panthers on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m. Both Panther squads defeated Valparaiso earlier this season when they traveled to Vaparaiso, Ind.
