CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis played its second match in two days to open the 2022 season as the Panthers traveled to Big Ten member Illinois on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers lost the contest 7-0 as they fell to 0-2 on the season.
Lauren Ellis battled playing at No. 5 singles as she lost in two sets to Emily Casati. Ellis lost 6-2, 7-5.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos would fall at No. 1 singles losing to Kate Duong in two sets 6-1, 6-3.
Illinois would clinch the doubles point in the match winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
EIU's No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with
Christine Gouws and
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova playing in that position.
EIU's second match for Sunday against Northern Illinois was canceled due to COVID health and safety protocols.
The Panthers return to action next Friday at Chicago State.
