Eastern Illinois snapped a 10-game losing streak on Thursday night as the Panthers picked up a 58-53 win over at UT Martin. The win also ended an eight game OVC losing streak dating back to last season and an eight game road losing streak dating back to last season. The last road and OVC win were in the same game when EIU won at Austin Peay, 76-69 on Feb. 20, 2021. EIU is now 3-17 overall, 1-6 in the OVC. Tennessee State comes in following a road victory at SIUE on Thursday night. The Tigers are now 9-12 overall, 4-5 in the OVC. TSU is 3-8 in road games this season.
CLEMENTS HELPS CARRY EIU TO WIN
Kejuan Clements helped carry the Panthers to their first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season on Thursday night. Clements scored ten of the Panthers final 14 points in the game as he finished with 12 points total. He had four of his points at the foul line and extended one EIU possession with a rebound off a missed free throw. It was the sixth double figure scoring game this season for Clements and his second in the last three games. Clements added four assists in the win as he ranks fourth in the OVC in assists per game at 4.2 (76 total).
PANTHERS CLICKING FROM THE FIELD AT UTM
Eastern Illinois had one of its best shooting nights of the season on Thursday at UT Martin as the Panthers shot 53.8 percent from the field during a 58-53 win. It was only the second time this season that EIU has shot 50 percent or better in a game with a season high 62.7 percent earlier this season against Rockford. At UT Martin, EIU was consistent shooting 57 percent in the first half and 50 percent in the second half. The last time EIU shot 50 percent or better in an OVC game was last January 25, 2021 against Southeast Missouri. EIU is shooting 46 percent from the field in their last two contests.
