Softball Bounces Back For 5-3 Win

Panthers hit four home runs to beat North Alabama

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Four different Eastern Illinois players hit home runs as the Panthers bounced back to win their second game on Friday afternoon with a 5-3 decision over North Alabama.

EIU improved to 2-4 on the season after splitting their opening two games at the River City Classic II Tournament.  North Alabama fell to 4-2 on the season.

Starting pitcher Alexa Rehmeier got some early help in the contest as she pitched a complete game to improve to 2-0 on the season.

After having the first five batters of the game retired in order, Kendall Fields was able to draw a walk for the first baserunner of the game.  Abi Stahlhut then delivered what would be the first of four home runs for the Panthers in the game with a two-run shot.  Aniya Holt followed one batter later with a solo shot to put EIU up 3-0.

The Panthers tacked on a solo run in the third when reigning OVC Player of the Year Megan Burton hit her first home run of the season.

North Alabama scratched across its first run in the bottom of the fifth as Sindey Bevis had a double and advanced to third on a throwing error.  She came around to score on a passed ball.

UNA threatened one more time in the bottom of the seventh with the Lions scoring two runs.  Kalli Daniel had an RBI triple that scored Bevis before coming around to score on an RBI single by Georgia Land.  Rehmeier would get a fly out and strike out to end the contest as she struck out eight while scattering five hits.

Sidney Revels (1-1) had the loss in the circle for UNA.

Morgan Lewis was the lone EIU player with multiple hits going 2-for-4 with two doubles.
