Multiple Panthers qualify for finals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Eastern Illinois closes out Day 1 of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track Championships host at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. During Wednesday's events, multiple Panthers earned their spot in the finals for Day 2. Eastern Illinois' men's indoor track team looks to repeat as champions.

In the men's heptathlon, Aiden Meyer competed in the first four events that will continue into tomorrow's meet. Meyer was able to place third in the 60 meter dash to start the meet on day one with a time of 7.33. He followed that up with fourth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.31m. In the shot put, Meyer also collected a fourth place finish with a throw of 11.11m. He ended day one with a second place finish in the high jump with a distance of 1.91m. He currently is in second overall after day one.

Bradley Olysav earned a fourth place finish in the finals of the men's weight throw with a distance of 17.25m. This sets his new personal record in the weight throw. Madison Myrick was able to grab a sixth place finish in the women's high jump with a distance of 1.58m. Taylor Iverson earned herself a ninth place finish in the women's weight throw with a distance of 16.00m.

Ramsey Hunt and Sean Hopkins both were able to grab points for the men's team in the long jump. Hunt (7.42m) earned third place while Hopkins (6.99m) was able to get fifth place. Stenoree Allen was able to qualify for the men's 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.53. He led the OVC during the year with a time of 8.27.

Three Panthers were able to qualify for the women's 60m hurdles finals tomorrow afternoon. Akiya Kollore won the prelims with a time of 8.58, Shanisa Stinson earned second place with a time of 8.71, and Hallee Thomas (8.98) qualified with a sixth place finish. James Boyd finished seventh in the men's pole vault with a jump of 4.03m.

Riley Baker, Joshia Neal, and Makhtar Mbaye all qualified for the men's 400m finals after their performances on day one. Baker finished in third with a time of 49.58, Neal finished right behind him in fourth place with a time of 49.90, and Mbaye finished in sixth with a time of 50.24. Zakiya Johnson also earned 10th place in the women's 400 prelims with a time of 58.65.

EIU places the top three finishes in the men's 60 meter dash prelims with Hopkins, Brailyn Johnson, and Jahleel Perrin. Hopkins finished in first with a time of 6.85, Johnson earned a 6.93 to get second, and Perrin finished in third with a time of 6.97. Joshua Whitaker also finished in first during the men's 800m prelims with a time of 1:55.23. Katie Springer also qualified in the women's 800m prelims with a time of 2:17.48.

Ricky Johnson continues his success in the men's 200 meter dash with a first place finish in the prelims with a time of 21.90. Perrin (22.35), B. Johnson (22.43), and Mbaye (22.67) also qualify in the men's 200 meter finals for tomorrow. A. Kollore also qualifies for another event during day one after she placed fourth in the women's 200m prelims (24.59).

Dustin Hatfield wins the men's 5000m run again with a time of 14:32.15. This marks his third win in this event this season. Jaime Marcos finishes second in the event with a time of 14:34.09, while Richie Jacobo earns fifth with a time of 14:45.41. Kate Bushue earned a third place finish on the women's side with a time of 17:19.96, and Lindsey Carlson added a fifth place finish with a time of 17:34.25.

The men and women's teams ended day 1 with the 4000 medley relay. On the men's side, the team of Trevor Murphy, Gregory Downs, Whitaker, and Nick Oakley finished in second place with a time of 10:09.21 which also set a new PR for the group. The women's team of Kylie Decker, Mckenna Wojcicki, Katie Spriner, and Kylie Haacke finished in eighth place with a time of 12:37.81.

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow for Day 2 of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Conference Championships. Live results and video will be made available.
