Eastern Illinois will wrap up its first season under head coach
Marty Simmons on Saturday as the Panthers were eliminated from the OVC Tournament race with Thursday's loss to Morehead State. EIU enters its final game of the season with a 5-25 record, 3-13 in the OVC. EIU could still finish in a tie for 8th place but the Panthers lose any tie-breaker scenarios that would punch their ticket to Evansville. Austin Peay comes in with an 11-16 record overall, 7-10 in the OVC after beating SIUE in overtime on Thursday night.
CHARLES RANKS IN EIU CAREER TOP TEN
Kashawn Charles has been among the top 3-point shooters during his four-year EIU career. He was the OVC leader in 3-point percentage during one of his seasons while ranking second in the OVC during another year. Two weeks ago he knocked down six 3-pointers scoring a career high 27 points against UT Martin. In that game Charles moved into 10th place on the EIU career 3-pointers made list as he now has 150 for his career. Charles is seventh on the EIU career 3-pointer field goal percentage list at 39 percent (150-for-384).
FRIDAY AMONG EIU'S BEST SINGLE SEASON SHOOTERS
Last season
Sammy Friday IV posted the fifth best single season field goal percentage in school history connecting at 60 percent. This season the second year graduate student has increased that production shooting 61.1 percent from the field. Friday has five double figure scoring games this season with a high of 21 vs. Rockford.
PANTHERS NEARING SCHOOL TOP 10 IN BLOCKS
Eastern Illinois had two blocked shots on Thursday against Morehead State as the Panthers have 93 blocked shots for the season. EIU needs one more block in the final game to post the 10th best team blocks total in school history. The school record is 144 set in the 2013-14 season.
Paul Bizimana leads EIU with 24 blocks this season.
