STEPHENVILLE, Tx - Eastern Illinois (3-2) sweeps Tarleton State (2-4) in their double header on Sunday with Game 2's final score of 3-1. Preseason Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year Cameron Doherty threw 6.0 shutouts innings in his first win of the season while tossing 9 Ks. Ryan Ignoffo continued his excellent Sunday with three more hits in the second game including his fourth double of the series.

Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning to start Game 2. Nathan Aide got it going with a single down the third base line with two outs. Ignoffo kept his hot streak going with a single to center field to move Aide to third. With Doyle in the batter's box, Aide was able to steal home base to give the Panthers the early lead. Doyle then singled through the left side of the infield which moved Ignoffo to third. Worcester then produced the only RBI for EIU by singling through the right side to bring Ignoffo home.

Doherty left two stranded in the first inning after allowing two hits. Grant Lashure was able to pick off Kemuel Thomas-Rivera at second after he tried to steal from first.

Lucas DiLuca picked up a single in the second while also earning a stolen base at second. Doherty came back out in the bottom of the second to strike out two Texans and force a groundout to shortstop. Ignoffo was able to double to start the third, but was left stranded. 

At the top of the fifth, Ignoffo picked up another hit with a single to second base. After giving up a double, Doherty struck out the next three batters he faced in the bottom half of the fifth. He would then go on to strike out two more in the bottom half of the six to give him nine on the day.

Logan Eickhoff picked up his lone hit of Game 2 in the top of the seventh, and earned a stolen base. Nicholson came in during the bottom half of the inning, and gave up only one hit while stiking out two. 

EIU scored their final run of the night in the eighth after Nicholas Rucker reached on a dropped fly ball by Tarleton State's first baseman which scored Ignoffo from second. EIU would then go one, two, three in the bottom of the inning with a double play by DiLuca and Tarron Lawson.

Tarleton would score their lone run in the bottom of the ninth after Carter Dobrinski triple to right field, and London Green grounded out to second to earn an RBI. Nicholson would go on to strikeout the final two batters.

EIU posted eight hits, one error, and nine left of base while Tarleton State had eight hits, three errors, and six runners left on base.

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon on Monday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. for the final game of a three-game series. Livestats and streaming will be made available.
