ON-TAP: Eastern Illinois' indoor track team will head to South Bend, Ind. on Friday, Feb. 4 to compete in the two-day Notre Dame Meyo Invite hosted by the University of Notre Dame. This will be the first time since the 2019-20 season that the Panthers will travel to the Meyo Invite. EIU has been traveling to this event since the 2013-14 indoor track season.
PREVIOUS MEET RESULTS (1/22): Eastern Illinois last competed in the Indiana Gladstein Invitational two weeks ago. During that meet, 21 Panthers earned at least a fifth place finish in their event. It was the first away meet of the season for EIU. Top finishers included
Alicia Adams who earned a third place finish in the women's 400 meter (1:00.46),
Dustin Hatfield earned the Panthers only first place finish in the men's 3000 meter (8:09.84), Jamie Marcos who also earned a third place finish in the 3000 meter (8:11.88), and
Jekeel Suber who placed third in the men's 60 meter hurdle finals (8.15).
TRACK ATHLETE TO WATCH: Dustin Hatfield earned the Ohio Valley Conference's Male Track Athlete of the Week award two weeks ago for his efforts in the Indiana Gladstein Invitational. He was the only Panther to earn a first place finish in the meet. His time of 8:09.84 in the men's 3000 meter ranked third all-time at Eastern Illinois and beat his previously record which was fifth all-time. Dustin looks to continue his success in the Notre Dame Meyo Invite this weekend.
UP NEXT: After the Panthers compete this weekend, they will travel to the Grand Valley State Big Meet held in Allendale, Mich. on Friday, Feb. 11. This will be the last away indoor track meet of the season before Eastern returns home for the annual EIU Friday Night meet.
HEAD COACH: Keith Roberts was hired as the new Director of Track and Field for the Panthers, and is entering his first season as the head track and field coach. He becomes just the fourth director of track and field in the program's NCAA Division I history. Roberts arrives at EIU after serving six years as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh. During his time there, Roberts helped with Pitt's transition from the Big East to the ACC. With his assistance the men's track and field team rose from 11th in the conference to 4th place. Roberts has recruited and coached ACC scorers in the women's 60 hurdles, men's 60 hurdles, women's 100m dash, men's 200m dash, women's 400m dash, men's 400m dash, women's 400 hurdles, men's 400 hurdles, men's and women's 4x100 relay and men's and women's 4x400 relay.
