Eastern Illinois won its second straight game on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers scored their final nine points of the contest at the free throw line during a 62-57 win over Tennessee State. EIU limited TSU to just 34 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range. EIU heads to Southeast Missouri with a 4-17 record overall, 2-6 in the OVC. The Panthers Thursday contest at SIUE was postponed due to winter weather and will be rescheduled for Feb. 21. Southeast Missouri lost on Thursday night at UT Martin as the Redhawks fell to 9-13 overall, 4-5 in the OVC.
BIZIMANA WITH ANOTHER 20 POINT GAME
Paul Bizimana scored 20 points on Saturday helping lead Eastern Illinois to a win over Tennessee State. It was the third 20 point game for Bizimana in the last five contests as he is now averaging 7.1 points per game. Bizimana has six double figure scoring games this season with four of those coming in OVC action. He is averaging 12.1 points per game in league contests which ranks 16th overall. Bizimana has also been active on the defensive end of the floor with at least one blocked shot in eight straight games. He currently ranks fifth in the OVC with 20 blocks.
SCHNYDERS SCORES A CAREER HIGH
Micah Schnyders came off the bench on Saturday against Tennessee State and finished with a career high 12 points. He was 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the win. Schnyders has increased his playing time in OVC action playing 20 or more minutes in five of the Panthers eight league games. He scored six first half points last Thursday in the road win at UT Martin and has made seven of his last eleven shots from the field. Earlier this season Schnyders scored a season high seven points against Murray State.
