DANVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois and Milwaukee women's tennis met on Sunday afternoon at the Danville Tennis Center with Milwaukee winning a tightly contested 4-3 match with a win at No. 6 singles in the final match of the day.
EIU built an early 1-0 lead in the match by winning the doubles point.Â
Addison Brown and
Christine Gouws won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles to give each team a doubles win. EIU then won the doubles point with a tie-break at No. 3 doubles with
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova and
Kaitlyn Snyder picking up a 7-6 win, winning 7-5 in the tie-break.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos staked EIU to a 2-0 lead in the match with her straight set win at No. 1 singles. Papavasilopoulos won 6-2, 6-1 over Greta Carbone.
Milwaukee would win the next three points of the match to take a 3-2 lead.
Gouws picked up a three-set win at No. 3 singles to knot the match at 3-3. Gouws won 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 over Iva Stejskalova.
Avery Durham won the deciding point for Milwaukee at No. 6 singles.  Milwaukee improved to 2-2 on the season. EIU fell to 0-6.Â
