INDIANAPOLIS – Eastern Illinois men's tennis opened Friday's non-conference match at Butler winning the doubles point but could not maintain that momentum in singles play losing to the Bulldogs 6-1.
EIU fell to 2-16 on the season and will host Rose-Hulman on Sunday afternoon. Butler improved to 8-7 overall.
Butler would win the first doubles match at No. 2 doubles before EIU evened the doubles play with a win at No. 3 doubles.Â
Tyler Carlin and
Max Pilipovic-Kljajic evened the match winning 7-5 at No. 3 doubles.  The Panthers would then take home the doubles point win a win at No. 1 doubles.Â
Christos Kyrillou and
Thomas Wallace picked up the 7-5 win for their sixth win at No. 1 doubles this spring.
In singles play, EIU adjusted its line-up sliding players up one spot in the rotation. Kyrillou moved up to play at No. 1 singles losing 6-3, 6-2 to Thomas Brennan.
Carlin moved up to play at No. 4 singles and pushed his match to three sets against Borja Miralles before losing in a final set tie-break. Miralles would win 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Charles Courteau and
Thomas Wallace each had competitive matches in their order in the line-up. Courteau moved up to play at No. 3 singles losing 6-3, 6-3. Wallace played at No. 6 singles falling 6-4, 6-3.
