CINCINNATI – Eastern Illinois men's tennis battled Xavier on Friday evening before losing 5-2.
EIU was in the match in the doubles contest splitting the first two doubles matches. Xavier won at No. 2 doubles before EIU picked up a 7-5 win by
Christos Kyrillou and
Thomas Wallace at No. 1 doubles. The doubles point would come down to the No. 3 doubles match with Xavier pulling out the point in a tiebreak winning 7-6 (8-6).
Xavier jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. The Musketeers then clinched the match with wins at No. 6 and 6 singles.
EIU had late wins in the match by
Charles Courteau and
Cameron Slabbert.
Courteau won at No. 4 singles in three sets over Charlie Temming winning 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Slabbert won at No. 3 singles in three sets over Ryan Cahill winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
EIU fell to 1-12 on the season while Xavier moved to 6-4. The Panthers return to action on Saturday at Dayton.
