MARTIN, Tenn. – In a game that featured key runs by both teams, UT Martin had the final big run of the game as the Skyhawks made their final eight shots of the game to pick up a 91-78 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
Kinyon Hodges scored 19 of his 25 points in the first half to keep the Panthers in striking distance as they trailed UTM 46-43 at the half.
The Panthers had a key run midway through the second half feeding
Jermaine Hamlin inside as he scored five straight points to give EIU its first lead of the second half at 56-55 with 13:15 to play. Hamlin scored nine points off the bench as EIU had a 32-12 advantage in bench production.
EIU extended its second half lead to six points on two occasions in the second half on a 3-pointer by Cameron Haffer and a jumper by Hodges. Hodges jumper put the Panthers up 64-58 with 10:53 left to play.
UT Martin would start its late stretch of good shooting from the field as the game was tied at 68-68 with 6:52 left in the game.
Josh Endicott and Parker Stewart hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give UT Martin the start to its final run as they went on a 13-2 run to go up 81-70 with 3:51 left in the game. UT Martin's last missed shot in the game was a 3-point attempt with 8:47 remaining in the game.
Stewart led the Skyhawks with 19 points as all five UTM starters scored in double figures. Chris Nix also had 19 for the Skyhawks. UTM shot 57 percent from the field for the game including 7-of-24 from 3-point range.
Haffner joined Hodges in double figures for EIU with 15 points.
EIU dropped to 7-14 overall, 3-5 in the OVC. UTM improved to 13-8 overall, 5-3 in the OVC.
