Scoreless Road Draw Gives Women’s Soccer Important Point

The 0-0 tie at Western marks the third clean sheet for the Panthers in the season



MACOMB, Ill. - The Eastern Illinois women's soccer team returned home with an important point collected from a scoreless draw at Western Illinois. The Panthers are now holding a 1-3-2 OVC record, as the objective is to secure a spot in the OVC tournament with three matches left to be played. Western Illinois is yet to pick up its first win in the OVC, as the Leathernecks hold a 2-6-5 overall record, and 0-2-4 in the conference. 

The Panthers started the game creating a good chance to score with Carys Grieve in the third minute, but the shot ended up going off target. The game became more settled, as both teams knew the importance of the match, and could not afford to lose. Western's attempts to score were stopped by EIU's defense, as the Leathernecks outshot the Panthers 7-3 in the initial half.
 
The second half started with EIU taking the initiative on the offensive third, as the Panthers were able to get nine shots, but could not find the back of the net. Grieve, Avery Richardson, Abby Reinl, and Espi Logan with EIU's attempts to score. 

Goalkeeper Ella Kratochvil added six saves in net, to reach her second shutout of the season and third clean sheet for EIU.

With the tie, EIU picked up its fifth point in the OVC. 

Up next: The Panthers return to action hosting Little Rock on Sunday, Oct. 15th. Kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
