HOUSTON, Texas - The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team (2-7-2, 1-3) puts an end to its series of two OVC matches in Texas with a 4-1 loss to Houston Christian (3-5-4, 1-1-2). EIU met its third conference loss while the Huskies picked up the first win in the OVC.
The match started equal, as both teams were studying each other. EIU's best chance of the half came with a shot from
Casey Welage forcing HCU's goalkeeper to make a save in the 11th minute. The Huskies responded with a goal in the 28th minute by Ethan Giwa-McNeil to give HCU the 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half started with the Panthers early on offense in search of the equalizing goal, as
Kyle Kimberling tapped it in a ball crossed into the box by
Casey Welage in the 46th minute, 1-1. Four minutes later, the Huskies were back on the scoreboard with Hens Leza giving the lead back to the home team, 2-1. Although the Panthers tried to find the equalizing goal once again with shots from
Felipe Kerr Lourenco,
Sam Eccles, and Kimberling, it was the Huskies that ended up doubling the advantage with Ryan Okerayi and Curtis Dunn in the 70th and 77th minute, respectively.
